3rd Generation Toyota Tacoma OTT Tuned ECU (2016–2023)
Transform the drivability of your 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma (3.5L V6) with a pre tuned Overland Tailor Tuned (OTT) ECU from Big Dawgs Toyota Tuning.
This upgraded ECU tuned with the latest 9.2 calibration from OTT eliminates factory throttle lag, improves automatic transmission behavior, and delivers smoother, more responsive power throughout the RPM range.
Designed specifically for 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma models, this tune enhances daily driving, towing, and off-road performance.
ECUs are year & drivetrain specific. They are not interchangeable. Please double-check that you select the correct model year for your vehicle before ordering.
You’ll remove your factory ECU and install the tuned unit using the included step-by-step instructions. No additional tuning or programming required.
Please note: a $350 core charge is applied at checkout and will be fully refunded once we receive your original (stock) ECU & verify its working condition.
Warning! Installation of this ECU incorrectly may result in ECU/TCU failure. Please contact Big Dawgs Toyota Tuning if you have any questions.
Pre-Tuned ECU FAQ
How it works & ordering
What is a pre-tuned ECU and how does it work?
A pre-tuned ECU is a factory ECU that we calibrate for your specific Toyota before it ships. Instead of flashing a tune yourself, you receive a plug-and-play unit already loaded with your Overland Tailor Tuning (OTT) calibration. Swap it into your vehicle and you are running the tune, with no handheld device or tuner visit required.
What information do you need from me to build my tune?
To build your tune correctly, we collect details about your exact vehicle: year, VIN, current mileage, engine, transmission, drivetrain (2WD or 4WD), gear ratio, and any modifications you are running. The more accurate the information, the better we can match the calibration to your truck and the way you drive.
Do I need to send my original ECU back?
Yes. Your order includes a $350 core charge that is fully refunded once you send your original ECU back to us. After you install your pre-tuned unit, box up your factory ECU and return it, and we will process your core refund.
How long until I receive my tuned ECU?
Most pre-tuned ECUs are built and shipped within about 3 to 5 days. Once yours ships, you will receive tracking so you know exactly when to expect it.
What is the difference between a pre-tuned ECU and a COBB Accessport?
Both deliver a proven OTT tune, but the experience is different. A pre-tuned ECU is a physical, plug-and-play swap that arrives already calibrated for your vehicle, which is the simplest route. A COBB Accessport V3 is a handheld device you use to flash tunes yourself, and it doubles as a gauge and datalogger. Not sure which fits you? Reach out and we will help you choose.
Install, fitment & support
Is it plug-and-play, and how hard is the install?
It is a straightforward swap that most owners can do at home. The only tools you need are a basic socket set and a flathead or pry tool. You remove your factory ECU, install the pre-tuned unit in its place, and you are ready to drive. No cutting and no wiring required.
Which Toyota models and years are supported?
We build pre-tuned ECUs for a growing range of Toyota platforms. Currently we only offer the service for 3rd Gen Tacomas and 5th Gen 4Runners. If you do not see your exact vehicle or year listed, reach out. There is a good chance we can tune it or have support on the way.
What fuel or octane does the tune require, and is it a fixed tune?
Your pre-tuned ECU runs the calibration it is loaded with, so it is set for the tune you select rather than something you re-flash yourself like a COBB Accessport. Before we build it, Big Dawgs Toyota Tuning will reach out to learn how you use your vehicle and recommend the tune type that fits best, though the final choice is always yours. We reccomend running premium for the best results, but you can run any octane you like.
Will tuning void my warranty, and can the dealer still service my vehicle?
A tune is like any aftermarket part. Your dealer would have to prove it directly caused a specific failure to deny that item under warranty, and we make no guarantees either way. Many of our customers visit their dealership with no issues. The dealer can still run diagnostics and service your vehicle normally.
Can I return my vehicle to stock?
Yes. To return to stock, please reach out and Big Dawgs Toyota Tuning will coordinate mailing an ECU back to you with your original OEM calibration applied, so you always have a clean path back to factory settings.
